Estate Planning Resource

Written by Nickel - 3 Comments
  •  Tip It!

I just ran across a relatively new book on estate planning called “Crash Course in Estate Planning : The Essential Guide to Wills, Trusts, and Your Personal Legacy” by Michael Palermo. It’s published by AARP, so it may end up being targeted more toward retirees than to people like me (particularly the young kids angle), but it looks like it may be good background reading if nothing else. If anyone has read this, I’d love to hear your feedback. If not, it looks like my local library has a copy. I’ll report back once I’ve had a chance to look it over.

Update: Here’s my review of Crash Course in Estate Planning.

Seeing as this is your most recent post on Estate Planning, did you get a chance to read this book? I’m just wondering because from what little I’ve read there are definite benefits to have a trust with most of your assets titled in it. A will is also required, but assets would go through the probate process and you can do more things through a properly set-up trust. I don’t know your exact situation, but as you said in a previous post, you may want to at least talk to an attorney about setting up a trust and reviewing your current will.

I have this book from the library right now and am working my way through it. I intend to post my impressions once I’ve gotten through it. I’ll keep you posted. What I *can* tell you so far is that this isn’t a do-it-yourself book. Rather, it’s intended to help you through the process with an attorney. It does a pretty good job of providing background and bringing up topics that you might want get more info/guidance about from your attorney.
