Call 411 for Free
Have you ever wanted to call 411 to get a quick phone number without paying the obnoxiously large fee? If so, then the good folks at Jingle Networks have just the thing for you… Simply dial 1-800-FREE-411 (1-800-373-3411) and proceed as usual. The only price you’ll pay is having to listen to a short (10 second) ad while they look up the information (although I didn’t even get an ad when I tested out the service). The advertising model in use here is actually kind of interesting, as they try to match you up with an ad for one of the competitors of the party whose number you’re searching for (assuming it’s a business). Since they use the same data that the carriers use, the information is every bit as good as what you’d get on a regular 411 call. So why pay for it? Scribble this number down next to your phone, or program it into your cell (right now!) so you’ll have it when you need it. Click here if you’d like to read an example of the real-world utility of this little gem.

I remember back in the day when you could listen to advertisements and get free long distance phone calls, all you had to do was listen to a 10 second spot, hit pound or star and you’d get a free minute or so of long distance. I once was stuck in an airport so I listened to all the ads over and over again so I could call friends (this was before cell phones and infinite minutes).
