SimplyBunkBeds.com Misled Us (And I’m Not Happy)

Written by Nickel - 13 Comments

Wow, it feels like this site is rapidly devolving into a consumer bitch fest. But here we go again… We recently ordered two sets of ash bunkbeds from SimplyBunkBeds.com (a subsidiary of NetShops, Inc.) and when they showed up, they were made out of pine. And when we checked with the manufacturer, we learned that this model really is supposed to be made of pine, as opposed to ash. In other words, we were misled by the information provided by SimplyBunkBeds.com. Not only this, but they totally screwed up the order…

Instead of receiving two sets of bunk beds (i.e., two sets of headboards, footboards, and side rails), we received the two sets of the head and footboards that we ordered (except they were made of pine), as well as two more sets of head and footboards from an entirely different set of bunks. We also got four bunky boards — these came via UPS, whereas the balance of our order came on a freight truck.

Needless to say, we weren’t happy with having been misled, and the fact that they butchered the order just added insult to injury. The first thing that we did was to hop online and print out the misleading product description page. We then called SimplyBunkBeds.com customer service and explained the situation. Given the problems, they agreed to take the items back. However, it’s been two weeks since the wayward bunks arrived, and they’re still sitting in our garage. This has caused some minor inonveniences, such as us not being able to get our car into the garage, and some slightly bigger issues such as having a sizable (but now disputed) charge on our card and no beds for our kids to sleep in (they’ve been on mattresses on the floor ever since we moved).

While SimplyBunkBeds.com has promised to take our order back, little has happened. UPS has (finally) picked up the bunky boards, although this took multiple calls to SimplyBunkBeds.com, as well as two different trips by UPS (SimplyBunkBeds.com didn’t issue enough call tags to get all four bunky boards picked up). We’re still waiting on them to get the freight company back out here to pick up the balance of the order, still waiting to be credited back, and still waiting go out and buy bunk beds for our kids.

Yesterday my wife moved up the chain of command and spoke to the shipping manager. He promised to follow up on this personally, and to make sure that it gets taken care of. Her response was “Well, I sure hope so. Because these things are going to find their way onto my front porch sometime soon. And then they’re going to find their way off my porch.”

The other maddening thing is that two weeks after notifying them of the problem, their web site still contains an inaccurate description of these bunk beds (i.e., it still says they’re made of ash instead of pine). When my wife called them on this, their response was simply that “We’re working on it. These things take time.”

So… If you’re in the market for bunk beds, I just thought you might want to know about our bad experience with SimplyBunkBeds.com.

Oh, and from what I can tell, KidsFurnitureMart.com and BedroomFurnitureMart.com are also operated by NetShops, Inc. and their websites are displaying the exact same misleading information.

We had our own bunk bed order fiasco this summer. We were sent the right headboards, but rails from an older version of the same model. The headboards had three holes for hardware at each joint, the rails four. Took us about a month to convince everyone up the chain that we could count. The trouble is all the layers in these transactions: the retailer (a local company in our case–these things don’t just happen in the internet) sells via drop-shipment from the “manufacturer” who is really an importer in California getting merchandise from a factory in Asia. There are many opportunities for information to get garbled in a global economy.

Just bought a L-shaped bunkbed from SimplyBunkBeds for $1200 and what a ripoff! Very poor quality, extremel poor fit and finish and it only cost 5 times more than a decent Walmart bunk bed of superior quality!….They gave me half their profit back after a few phone calls and e-mails, but I am still seething at the overpriced junk they pass off as “Superior”.

Off course they won’t publish my review of the bed on their website, but I certainly would never deal with these guys again!

Came across this site and given our own bad experience with SimplyBunkbeds, I had to weigh in. We ordered the Ethan wood bunkbed set and had nothing but problems. The first shipment had no hardware or directions. The hardware and directions sent later had the wrong washers. We had to e-mail photos of what they had sent us to solve that problem.

Building the bed set we found that the ladder was to short to be attached to the bottom bunk. We e-mailed some more photos. They tried to fix this by sending us another ladder set, which was no different in length from the first. Then another ladder set, which was the same story. After many back and forth e-mails, they agreed to reimburse us for part of our order cost, and they sent us a whole new bed set. That bed set too had quality issues (and some damage in shipping), but we were able cobble everything we had from them together to make what is actually a very nice looking bed. But, what a hassle.

I chalk it up to a huge lack of quality control at the manufacturer’s end.

Wish I would have seen this site before placing my order in August. The bed I ordered was discontinued…only found this out because of my persistence. Finally, 10 days after I ordered, I spoke with a manager who told me he would cancel and credit the order. Here I am a month later, just received an email from Simplybunkbeds.com stating that my order is STILL open and will remain open unless they hear from me within 48 hours. Oh, and by the way, they have yet to credit my account for this bunkbed. Buyer beware!!!

I ALSO ORDERED BUNKBEDS, (FULL WITH TWIN ON TOP), FROM THIS COMPANY BUT I ONLY ORDERED 1 SET AND RECEIVED 2 THEREFORE I WAS CHARGED FOR THE 2 SETS. I HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR 2 WKS TO GET THIS STRAIGTENED OUT AND MY SET IS STILL SITTING WAITING TO BE PICKED UP. I KEEP GETTING THE RUNAROUND FROM THESE FOLKS EVERY TIME I CALL THEM. TELLING ME THEY WILL EMAIL WHEN THEY GOT IT FIXED AND NOTHING IS BEING DONE. IN THE MEANTIME I HAVE TO PAY FOR THE EXTRA THAT THEY WON’T COME AND PICK UP. I WILL NEVER ORDER FROM THESE GUYS AGAIN. I HAVEN’T EVEN ATTEMPTED TO PUT TOGETHER THE OTHER BUNKBED, BUT AFTER SEEING ALL THESE COMMENTS, I AM NOT SURE THAT I WANT TO.

I am so glad that I read these comments I was just about to order something and with the economy the way it is we can not afford a bad consumer experience. Thank You Thank You. Chris

Do not, repeat, DO NOT order from these folks. I placed an order 11:00 pm Friday night (Saturday Morning already Central time where the company is) and then realized I didn’t want the item. The office is closed Saturday and Sunday so I called Monday lunch Pacific time the next business day which was still AM Central time and i was told the item had already shipped so I couldn’t cancel. When I pointed out it was much less than one business day they said there was nothing they could do and that I will be responsible for the shipping cost. When I asked for the tracking information they said there wouldn’t be a tracking number until Tuesday even though it had already shipped but they don’t generate a number until the second day which is completely false of course. It was obvious on the phone that there is not interest in customer service or providing a good product here, simply an internet scam of selling poor quality chinese products at top dollar with no concern for the customer.

First, let me ask Nickel a question…how did you get your problem resolved, if at all?

We ordered bunkbeds for my daughter for Christmas. In the process of preparing her room, we opened the package and a piece was severly damaged. Obviously not a great Christmas day.
The Customer Service Rep. responded and sent another FULL SET, which we only needed the footboard. This piece was again damaged. Same process one more time, same results. Each time we reorded (three going on four)they did not want the damaged set back. This product was a pretty good size, so we had to pay to have them disposed of.

This last time we had enough with this exhausting process, so we kept the damaged part. I sent an e-mail indicating that the product was once again damaged, but to save the company the expense of shipping and the cost of another full set, I asked for a credit instead. NOW THEY WANT THE DAMAGED SET BACK, and they are only offering a 20% discount…which comes out to a whopping $44.00…doesn’t even cover the amount we had to pay to dispose of the damaged pieces.

There are plenty of Companies to order from on the internet, I say go there and stay away from this company.

Only wish I would have read the reviews before I went through this four month fiasco.

I was considering purchasing from this site but after this – probably not…anyone have a good site to purchase from? I saw someone mention walmart but that is not an option for me as I don’t really like their styles.

I am so very glad that i read all of your reviews because i was about to place an order on simplybunkbeds.com. They seem to have more stylish bunk beds then other stores but after reading these horrible reviews i will definetly steer clear and just buy a bed from a store and not on the internet, stylish or not. Minimal price to pay to avoid the aggrivation. Thanks again everyone for your comments.
