Full-Text RSS Feed Problems Solved

Written by nickel - 5 Comments

Just over a month ago, I announced that I was switching over to full-text RSS feeds, so you can imagine my surprise when I received an e-mail from a reader this morning stating that he had subscribed, and then immediately unsubscribed when he saw that I was only offering a summary feed. First off, no, this doesn’t signal a change of heart on my part. In fact, I couldn’t figure out what he was talking about at first. But then I realized that my RSS feed was being truncated at the ‘more‘ tag.

After a bit of digging, I learned that this is the default behavior of full-text feeds on WordPress 2.1 (to which I upgraded a week or two ago). Aaaaargh! The good news is that there’s now a third-party plugin to fix this ‘feature.’ I’ve installed it and it seems to be working.

As always, if you’d like to subscribe to the FiveCentNickel RSS feed, you can do so by copying the feed url and pasting it into your reader of choice, or by using one of the handy subscription buttons that can be found at the end of each post or in the left sidebar. You can also subscribe via e-mail by using the form below.

  3. Thanks for the plugin link; I just switched to 2.1 and haven’t had a chance to look around for one yet. I figured that there had to be one.

  5. That is one reason I subscribe to my own feed, both the post feed and the comment feed.

I have caught a couple of problems in the past, especially when updating, that my readers may not have noticed. At least you had someone who was ‘kind’ enough to send a ‘nasty gram’ instead of just quietly leaving.
