Weekly Roundup – 02/16/07
Here’s a quick look at some of the articles that caught my eye over the past week…
FMF tackles the issue of which is better to donate, time or money?
MBH talks about getting wholesale prices at your retail grocer.
Flexo has a cool little Quicken hack for tracking your airline miles. Combine this with my previous post on applying for credit cards to get free miles and you’ve got yourself a winning combination!
JLP questions the wisdom of Dave Ramsey, who advised a listener to stop contributing to their 401(k), and thus miss out on the free matching funds, in order to pay off their debts. Yikes! JLP isn’t the only one to have questioned the wisdom of Dave Ramsey. Then again, it seems that Ramsey is pretty darn good at psychology. Hmm… What to do?
Jim wonders about whether or not you really need a monogrammed credit card.
My Retirement Blog asks whether or not you’re saving too much. It’s a good question — while it’s important to plan for the future, don’t forget to live in the now.
I got an e-mail this week from the creator of Debt Blitzkrieg, which is a finance weblog with a debt focus. It’s a new site, but there’s already some nice content in place. For example, check out their tips for budgeting for irregular expenses.
Finally, for those of you that missed it, ConAgra has issued a peanut butter recall due to salmonella contamination. An interesting sidebar to this story is that Wal-Mart’s Great Value peanut butter is apprently Peter Pan peanut butter with a different label.
