ING Direct Introduces User-Friendly Login Names

FacebookThis is just a quick note to let you guys know that ING Direct, which is the top online bank amongst FiveCentNickel readers, has rolled out a new feature to making logging into your account even easier.
Instead of having to use a clumsy, eight digit customer number, you can now create a custom “Saver ID.” Honestly, I’m not sure how long this option has been around, but I didn’t notice it until about a week ago.
Here’s the scoop…
Trouble remembering your Customer Number? You now have the option of creating you own easy-to-remember username to login, known as a “Saver ID.” Then, you can use either your Saver ID or Customer Number to login.
To create your own Saver ID, login and click the ‘My Info’ tab.
So there you have it… ING Direct just got even easier to use.

It’s been around for a little while at least– I had the option when I opened my ING account in the beginning of February.

Have people really been memorizing their account numbers?! I feel bad…I should’ve said something earlier!

One nice security feature that ING has that I have not seen elsewhere is that you enter your 4-digit PIN (yeah I know, how secure is that?) on a screen keypad. The keypad associates a letter to each digit. This letter changes each time you try to login, so it is impossible to guess.
