Comment by HP — May 8th 2008 @ 11:39 amOh crap, I knew it was too good to be true. I’m not sure how I missed that. Oh well… I’ll modify the post to reflect this information.
Including taxes (5% in my case) this comes to a monthly rate of $15.07 for the first six months… A similar deal would cost $14.86 for the first six months at Netflix (without the in-store exchanges). So it’s not a bad deal, but it’s not a spectacular offer either.
Comment by Andreas — May 8th 2008 @ 1:17 pmAndreas: It’s an okay deal if you view Netflix and Blockbuster as equals, but we don’t. We used to have Netflix and liked it fine, but are much happier with Blockbuster. Of course, we have four kids and so the ability to swap movies in and out locally is a huge advantage. Moreover, we have pretty mainstream tastes, so the supposedly broader selection of Netflix isn’t a draw. In our case, this is a great deal, as it gives $35 dollars off your first six months of a service. This makes what we view to be a superior service cost the same as an inferior service. Of course, YMMV depending on personal tastes.
At your local library you can rent an unlimited number of DVD’s for a term of 1 week for FREE.
My library even allows me to place the DVDs I want to watch on hold from their website.
Don’t be dumb.

Nice. Did you ever stop to think that maybe, just maybe, people have a good reason for doing what they do? In our case, our local library has a horrendous selection of movies. If we want to see anything decent, we either have to buy it, rent it, or wait for it to come out on TV.
I don’t consider Netflix and Blockbuster to be equals because I’ve found Netflix service to be far superior. The price is lower, more plan options, a wider selection (classics, indie, TV shows, etc.) plus the online viewing. Blockbuster’s only real selling point is, “Exchange in the store too.” I use online services so I don’t have to drive to the store, etc. so that’s nothing to me.

Wow.
FYI not all libraries are like yours. I get movies lots of times from the library, but they don’t have a whole lot, you can not reserve or have them held, you get them for 3 days and they cost a buck. Not complaining, $1 is cheap and have used the library often but it is pretty limited.
Comment by Patty — May 11th 2008 @ 3:08 amI had netflix for 3 years and have just recently gone with blockbuster, I happen to live 3 blocks from a blockbuster store and I believe blockbuster is a much smoother opperation and gives me option to pick up movies at store as well as in the mail. BLOCKBUSTER ROCKS
