Sunday Roundup – Hacked Edition
In case you missed all the excitement, FiveCentNickel got hacked last Thursday (more details here and here). If you’ve fallen to this hack yourself, check out JD’s instructions for cleaning up the mess.
With that, here are some articles that caught my eye this past week…
Flexo looked at some possible sources of passive income. Guess what? More often than not, it’s not passive at all.
Kay talked about the state tax treatment of your tax rebate. Turns out some states will tax it, but others won’t.
Ron put together a nice list of frugal tips for increasing your home’s value. This is a timely article for anyone trying to sell a house in this market.
JLP talked about cheap sources of summer entertainment — how about some free summer movies?
Madison put together a nice collection of tips for ten financial tips for new grads.
Ben talked about protecting yourself against identity theft. There’s some good info here — definitely worth a read.
FMF talked about what to do when you find money in a public place. We’ve dealt with this ourselves, once on a small scale with the kids, and once on a much larger scale.
SVB put together some tips for a low-maintenance, low-cost yard. Hardscaping? Astro turf? No thanks. But I’m all about drought tolerant, native plants.
Finally, Pinyo e-mailed to let me know that he launched a new site called pfBuzz. I haven’t messed around with it very much, but it looks interesting.

Nickel, I’m glad you’re recovering okay and looks like JD instruction is very useful. Hopefully, WP will come out with a fix soon.
Secondly, thank you for mentioning PF Buzz to your readers. I hope to see you and the gang there!
