This absolutely works. The Debt Snowball works for the same reason that Weight Watchers works - psychology. You start small, and give yourself achievable goals in the right direction. As you achieve them, you build confidence and are able to do things you never thought possible.

Adam, these are wonderful, and I think your second bulletpoint can be summed up in one word: accountability. If you find it hard to self-motivate (like I do), being accountable to someone else is a huge inspiration.

I might add another strategy, which is helpful in both weight loss and debt reduction: don't beat yourself up over a setback. You'll spend more than you should at some point. You'll eat more thank you should at some point. You just gotta get back on the horse.

I like how you point out the positive psychological effects of weight management and exercise. Those same principles hold true to personal finance - so much of it has to do with pyschology and our own mindset.

Agree, weight loss and debt reduction are very similar. Or just exercise in general. You need to establish goals and a plan and stay on it to achieve the goals.
