Link Roundup - Running Man EditionLast week, I decided to bite the bullet and start running. I’ve recently gotten into a pretty good groove in terms of exercise, and have decided to take it to the next level, so I’ve decided to tackle the Couch-to-5K running program.

If this sounds intriguing, I invite you to join in. If not, you can still follow along. Either cheer me on to victory, or mock my failure. It’s a win-win! I’ll be tracking my progress over on my health and fitness site, where I’ve posted the workout schedule for the first week. Don’t worry, it’s starts off very gently.

And now… Here are some recent finance articles that caught my eye:

That’s it. Have a great week!

P.S. Let me know if you decide to take me up on the Couch-to-5K challenge.

Good luck. I started running in December and have gotten up to 2 miles, 3 days a week. I’m working on increasing my pace (currently a 10-minute mile) before I add more distance. My wife also did the couch to 5K last year. She just competed in another race this past weekend.

I would suggest registering for a race, so that you have a target you need to hit.

    Good luck!!!!!

MikeS: I haven’t registered for a race yet, but I did mark one on my calendar. My current schedule has me completing the program on May 21st, which is just ten days before Memorial Day. There are tons of Memorial Day races all over the country, so the timing couldn’t be better.

    Thanks for the Link.

I want/NEED to get into some sort of routine, maybe I’ll look into this program. I am heading over to your other site now.

Evan: Give it a shot. Matt Jabs also started this week, so we can help get each other through it. :)

I’m currently leading a group of five through the Couch to 5K – it’s an excellent program! Stick to the program even when it feels like you should be (could be) doing more. Most beginner injuries are born from doing too much too soon. Oh and you may want to add a new budget item for decent running shoes b/c you will need them sooner than later. I would suggest finding an actual running store in your area so that a proper shoe fitting can be done. Good Luck.

Couch to 5K is one of my plans for when I’m not working so much every day…

I LOVE Couch to 5K. I’m in the eighth week (27 minute runs). In high school I could never run a mile. Now I’m running two miles, three times a week! I love how each run gives you the confidence to try the next one. Good luck!
